About Me

Just after leaving school I bought a used camera, a Praktica LTL, with a Weston light meter. A few weeks later and I was hooked, though I had no idea why. Living in coastal Suffolk I'd take my camera to the beach and into the countryside, shooting just about anything that caught my eye, including random flotsam and jetsam.

After several years of trial and error - and reading copious photography magazines - I learnt a few things that helped me progress from haphazard snaps to considered images. But I still didn't fully understand what the attraction was.

It's only recently that I finally realised: while the resulting images are important, it is being outside in all weathers and the act of photographing that I enjoy most.

These days I spend a good deal of time at Markshall Estate near Coggeshall in Essex. As volunteer photographer and ranger, and with an estate of more than 2,300 acres, I certainly get to be outside in all weathers - and even manage to capture the occasional image!
